Bisq v1 stuck at ~95–96% SPV sync on startup (Linux), cannot reach Settings → Network

Post body

Hi everyone,

I’m running into a persistent issue with Bisq v1 on Linux (Mint, x86_64) where the application gets stuck around 95–96% SPV sync on startup and never completes, even when left running overnight.

Because Bisq never fully finishes loading, I cannot navigate to Settings → Network to apply recommended fixes from the UI.

Environment

  • OS: Linux Mint (x86_64)

  • Bisq version: v1.9.21

  • Network: Built-in Tor

  • Internet: stable, machine left running (no sleep/standby)

What happens

  • Bisq starts normally

  • Tor eventually connects (onion icon turns green)

  • SPV sync progresses to ~95–96%

  • Sync stalls indefinitely and never completes

  • UI remains blocked at the startup screen

I have left Bisq running overnight with no progress.

What I have already tried

  • Deleted SPV chain (via Bisq UI when prompted)

  • Deleted Tor directory via Bisq’s “connection problems” dialog

  • Restarted Bisq multiple times

  • Verified Tor eventually connects

  • Ensured system does not sleep or suspend

  • Previously resolved older DAO/startup errors (no longer present)

Despite this, the SPV sync continues to stall at the same point.

Questions

  1. Is SPV sync hanging at ~96% a known issue with recent Bisq v1 releases?

  2. Is switching to a local Bitcoin Core node the recommended workaround for persistent SPV sync stalls?

  3. Are there specific log files I should attach that are most helpful for diagnosing SPV sync freezes?

Happy to provide logs or additional system details if needed.

Thanks in advance.

update to 1.9.22

Hi suddenwhipvapor,

Thanks again for helping me previously — your advice solved my earlier sync issue, really appreciate it :folded_hands:

I’m facing a new problem now. My Bisq was stuck around 95–96% SPV sync, and after deleting the db folder (as suggested) it only synced successfully once I upgraded to v1.9.22.

Now Bisq opens normally, but:

  • All Fiat Payment Accounts are gone

  • My account age / reputation seems lost

  • Wallet funds are still intact

I later found the deleted db folder in Trash, restored it, and I also still have a Bisq_BACKUP from before the reset. Bisq is now asking me to select a path for FiatPaymentAccounts, but I’m unsure which folder to use to correctly restore my old account/reputation.

Is it still possible to recover Fiat accounts + reputation from the old db or backup? And which exact folder should I point Bisq to?

Thanks again for any help :folded_hands:
