Installed it. moved it to the applications. Run it from there. Only see the icon on the deck. No trace of application.

I just want to make sure that you checked the data directory to see if it was created and if it was, to give Manfred your log file.
This is the location of data directory in Mac /Users/username/Library/Application Support/Bisq
I have it working on high Sierra make sure you have this option on in system prefs
