Hello everyone: My macbook broke down so I got a new one and downloaded bisq from bisq website. I have the backup of my old macbook and the bisq backup but I don’t have seed words.
I tried various solutions offered in this community and none worked. Anyone would be willing to help. Please understand I don’t know in computers and completed grade ten high school only. So please try to offer something simple and clear. I am sure many at one point would need this topic and I hope bisq put this in its wiki for everyone. Thank you so much.
First, you need to install and run Bisq for a few seconds (remember that mac will tell you that bisq is damaged), until user data folders are created. Then you’ll need to copy the backup into user data folders.
Seed words would have to be used only if the backup does not work, it’s the last resource to at least get the funds in Bisq wallet.
Are you able to get the backup file?
Copy the backup file into /Users/<username>/Library/Application/Support/ and rename the backup file to “Bisq”.
If you can’t get the backup file, you can do a similar process by copying the Bisq folder from the old macbook at /Users/<username>/Library/Application/Support/ and copy it at that same spot. You won’t even need to rename the folder.
PS: The second method is preferred, it will have the more recent state.
